I have been so busy with Band Camp that I have not been able to keep up with my blogs.
Exciting things are happening this year with the Western High School Pioneer Regiment.
We have a strong representation of returning members and a large influx of new members. Although this is not the largest total number of performers the Pioneer Regiment has had it is the largest number of new members! One of the great things about this new class of students is they are well prepared to jump on board and contribute to the success of our season. We have been working hard on marching basics, music fundamentals, team building, fundraising, learning drill sets for the show and generally having a great time in the process.
In addition to our camp we have had several fun activities that occurred all before school began. We had a great time at the Family Picnic, the mid-camp BBQ and team competition was so much fun and the Pot Luck Performance drew rave reviews not only for the excellent performance but for the yummy food as well.
We capped off all of that with our yearly Beach Party at Bolsa Chica State Beach. I have since learned that our kids were fish in a former life. They swam and they swam. There was lots of food thanks to pot luck leftovers and the tasty cooking of Mr. John Sanchez at the BBQ. Thank you John for all the food and time you contributed! My favorite part is always the roaring fire and watching everyone roast marshmallows for s'mores. The fire was a little too roaring due to enthusiastic fire builders and a strong sea wind. I still smell that smoke!
I would like to continue encouraging parents and family members to get involved with our program. Come to the performances, join us at the parties and help us earn funds to keep the program running. As the saying goes "It takes a village!" Please come be a part of our little part of town and please help our kids be at the front of "Life's Parade!"
