"There is also a causal link between music and spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things). This kind of intelligence, by which one can visualize various elements that should go together, is critical to the sort of thinking necessary for everything from solving advanced mathematics problems to being able to pack a book-bag with everything that will be needed for the day."

CONGRATULATIONS to the Symphonic Band for a truly outstanding performance at the AUHSD District Music Festival on Thursday, March 26th. They received a Unanimous Superior Rating which is the highest possible score! In addition, the group received a Superior rating in sight-reading as well. This is especially a wonderful achievement as the Symphonic Band moved up a difficulty level in the music literature category!

Concert Attire:
Over the years, the Western High School Performing Ensembles have received many top awards for their musical performances. Not only have they performed with excellence, but they have also looked great! When musicians perform for adjudicators or an audience, they must not only exhibit superb musicianship, but they must also radiate a visual excellence that says, “Look at us! Not only do we sound great, but we look great too!” That’s what is called “Stage Presence.” Not too elegant and not too drab, but just right (and tasteful). So what is just right? All students must have appropriate hair, make-up, and accessories. This means: No bright colored hair, outrageous hairstyles, costume make-up or accessories that will detract from the performance. Remember, the music is the focus of the performance, not the performer!
Gentlemen: The following attire is appropriate for all concert performances:
Black Dress Shoes (No tennis shoes, sandals or boots)
Black Socks
Black Slacks (No Jeans!)
White Dress Shirt (long sleeve)
